Hi macramé-ers and soon-to-be macramé-ers,
I’m Michelle, the creator of My Mum the Dreamer.
The power of macramé continually amazes me. It’s so easy to get started, and it can totally change your life for the better. Not only can it make you feel a sense of achievement at creating beautiful macramé pieces, but it can also help you to be mindful and learn patience in other areas of your life, reduce your stress, and so much more…
I would love to inspire you to learn the art of macramé and use it to improve your life.
Before I had children I was a Trainer and Assessor, which means that I have the skills and knowledge to create easy-to-follow lessons and break difficult tasks down into simple steps. Now I have two crazy, hilarious, and beautiful children who fill my days with so much love and excitement, but also really test my patience at times!
After my first child was born, my priorities changed dramatically. I still remember the feeling of immense responsibility in those first few hours and days after we brought our daughter home from the hospital. I was now her main caregiver. It was my responsibility to keep her alive. It was up to me to make sure she was safe at all times, and to raise her to the best of my ability.
In those first few years, I lost myself a little bit. I was the best mother I could be, but at the expense of other things in my life. I don’t regret a minute of it…but now over 6 years down the track (and after adding a son into the mix!) my kids are old enough that I feel like I can breathe a little again. I’d started to yearn for a creative outlet; something I could do while homeschooling my daughter and still caring for my son. And just like that, one day the universe aligned and macramé dropped into my lap (well came up in a friend’s post!) and I clicked that this was exactly what I had been searching for.
I chose the name “My Mum the Dreamer” because I want to inspire my children and teach them that you can achieve anything you desire in life, as long as you put in the work. I don’t want to just tell them this, I want to be their role model and show them how I follow my passions and work to design a life that I love. I find this a fitting time to insert that old adage, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
A few interesting facts about me:
- Since my son was born I’ve been eating plant-based, which has basically meant learning to cook all over again!
- I love listening to podcasts while I prepare breakfast and dinner.
- I’ve started growing a veggie garden and eggplants are the only veggies where all 6 seedlings have survived.
- I love the sound of V8 engines and love the freedom of driving.
- My favourite album to listen to is Matchbox20 Exile on Mainstream.
- I’m constantly finding ways to lessen my families’ footprint on the earth.
- I’m failing miserably at composting!
- A dream of mine is to spend a couple of years travelling Australia in a caravan.
I hope you enjoy my blog and learn something from it or get some inspiration.
